Just make certain that the online phlebotomist program you enroll in is accredited by a national or regional accrediting organization (more on accreditation to follow). With both the comprehensive online and clinical training, you can receive a quality education with this method of learning. What to Ask Phlebotomy Colleges

Now that you have a general understanding about what is involved in becoming a phlebotomy tech, it’s time to begin your due diligence process. You might have already decided on the kind of program you wish to enroll in, whether it be for a certificate or a degree. As we previously mentioned, the location of the Georgia school is relevant in addition to the tuition expense. Maybe you have decided to enroll in an phlebotomy online program. All of these decisions are a critical component of the process for choosing a program or school. But they are not the sole considerations when making your decision. Following are some questions that you should ask about each of the Scottdale GA schools you are considering before making your ultimate decision.

Is the Phlebotomist Program Specific to Georgia? As mentioned previously, each state has its own laws for practicing as a phlebotomist. Some states call for certification, while a few others mandate licensing. Each has its own prerequisite regarding the minimum amount of practical training performed before practicing as a phlebotomist. Consequently, you might have to pass a State Board, licensing or certification examination. Therefore it’s very important to select a phlebotomist program that meets the state specific requirements for Georgia or the state where you will be working and preps you for all examinations you may have to take.

Is the College Accredited? The phlebotomist school and program you select should be accredited by a recognized national or regional accrediting organization, such as the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). There are many advantages to graduating from an accredited school aside from an assurance of a premium education. First, if your program is not accredited, you will not be able to take a certification examination offered by any of the previously listed certifying agencies. Next, accreditation will help in getting financial aid or loans, which are often not available for non-accredited schools in Scottdale GA. Last, graduating from an accredited college can make you more attractive to future employers in the job market.

What is the College’s Reputation? In a number of states there is little or no regulation of phlebotomy schools, so there are some that are not of the highest quality. So in addition to accreditation, it’s essential to check out the reputations of any schools you are looking at. You can start by asking the schools for references from employers where they refer their graduates as part of their job placement program. You can screen internet school rating and review services and ask the accrediting organizations for their reviews as well. You can even contact a few Scottdale GA area hospitals or clinics that you may be interested in working for and see if they can provide any insights. As a closing thought, you can contact the Georgia school licensing authority and ask if any complaints have been submitted or if the schools are in total compliance.

Is Enough Training Included? First, check with the Georgia regulator or the state regulator where you will be practicing to find out if there are any minimum requirements for the amount of training, both classroom and practical. At a minimum, any Scottdale GA phlebotomy program that you are considering should provide at least 40 hours of classroom training (the majority require 120) and 120 hours of practical training. Anything below these minimums may indicate that the program is not expansive enough to provide adequate training.

Are Internships Included? Ask the Georgia colleges you are reviewing if they have an internship program in collaboration with regional medical facilities. They are the ideal way to get hands-on clinical training often not obtainable on campus. As an added benefit, internships can help students establish contacts within the local Scottdale GA healthcare community. And they are a plus on resumes also.

Is Job Placement Assistance Provided? Landing your first phlebotomist position will be a lot easier with the assistance of a job placement program. Inquire if the programs you are looking at provide assistance and what their job placement rate is. If a college has a high rate, signifying they place most of their students in jobs, it’s an indication that the program has both a good reputation together with a large network of professional contacts within the Scottdale GA healthcare community.

Are Classes Compatible With Your Schedule? And last, it’s crucial to verify that the final college you choose provides classes at times that will accommodate your busy lifestyle. This is particularly important if you decide to continue working while going to school. If you can only attend classes at night or on weekends near Scottdale GA, make certain they are offered at those times. Also, if you can only attend on a part-time basis, verify it is an option also. Even if you have decided to attend online, with the practical training requirement, make certain those hours can also be fulfilled within your schedule. And ask what the make-up protocol is in case you need to miss any classes due to emergencies or illness.

Why Did You Decide to Be a Phlebotomy Tech?

When getting ready to interview for a Phlebotomy Tech position, it's advantageous to reflect on questions you may be asked. Among the things that hiring managers frequently ask Phlebotomist prospects is "What drove you to select Phlebotomy as a career?". What the interviewer is attempting to discover is not merely the private reasons you might have for becoming Phlebotomy Tech, but additionally what qualities and talents you have that make you good at your profession. You will probably be asked questions relating primarily to Phlebotomy, in addition to a significant number of routine interview questions, so you need to organize several approaches about how you would like to address them. Given that there are several variables that go into choosing a career, you can answer this fundamental question in a variety of ways. When formulating an answer, try to include the reasons the work interests you as well as the strengths you possess that make you an exceptional Phlebotomy Technician and the leading choice for the job. Don't make an effort to memorize an answer, but jot down some ideas and anecdotes that pertain to your own experiences and strengths.
