Crystal Bay Township was organized in 1904, and named after Crystal Bay.[3]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 210.2 square miles (544 km2), of which 203.7 square miles (528 km2) of it is land and 6.6 square miles (17 km2) of it (3.12%) is water.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 607 people, 235 households, and 165 families residing in the township. The population density was 3.0 people per square mile (1.2/km²). There were 350 housing units at an average density of 1.7/sq mi (0.7/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.68% White, 0.33% African American, 0.16% Asian, 0.66% from other races, and 0.16% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.15% of the population.
